After hearing many people talking about ‘Black Swan’, I was intrigued to see it myself. The most talked about bit being a supposed lesbian and masturbation scene, I was not particularly looking forward to it. Although an awkward moment for me and most of the audience, this was not the parts of the film that really struck me. In fact, I was completely disturbed by the plot itself. It was very well-acted, Natalie Portman deserving her Oscar nominations, as she portrayed Nina, the ballerina striving for perfection who slowly descends into madness while trying to become the perfect black swan for Swan Lake. It was her turn to madness that disturbed me most for it was quite gruesome with the blood and violent parts. A few moments also made me jump out of my seat. The dancing itself was beautiful and it was nice to be able to watch some of the ballet scenes that helped me forget about the horrible bits I had seen. All in all, it was a good film if not disturbing, but I’m too scared to see it again.
So it’s my final year at sixth form and so hopefully, the next step for me is university. I went through the usual procedure by applying through UCAS. Fill out application including predicted grades, write a personal statement where you have to make out that you’re the most amazing person ever and get references from teachers. Luckily for me, I’ve been offered all of my five choices: Sussex, Royal Holloway, Nottingham, Surrey and Keele, to study psychology with AAB offers. However, it’s not so lucky for some. With the university fees tripling, many people have been left without places. For instance, many people in my year with consistently high grades have been getting rejections, especially for medicine where all I seem to hear of is rejections. People have been left without places because everyone is attempting to get into university now while the fees are still low, meaning that the competition for places is huge. For medicine, a course that on average gets over 1000 applicants, the competition is so fierce, they’re looking for the A* candidates. So I’d like to congratulate the government for increasing the amount of people without university places this year and for increasing the amount of student debt that I’m going to get into by the time I’m 30.
So I thought I would find a nice ‘pretty’ picture of myself to start of my blog. This is probably one of my better ones and I don’t look particularly great here tbh. But anyways, I’m Clare

So, that’s just a teeny tiny glimpse into my psyche (as Freud would say). Yes, I hope to study psychology so I’m allowed to be all psychological in my blogs. Here’s to the next blog
